The significance of Economics as a discipline of study at the UG level has increased tremendously in recent times because of its high utility and huge demand. It offers a wide array of opportunities for higher education, research, consultancy and jobs in the public and private sectors. The courses deal with the qualitative and quantitative aspects of economics, as well as theory and practical applications besides giving a historical perspective. The courses include several important areas such as microeconomics, macroeconomics, developmental economics, and environmental economics. Students are also trained to apply their mathematical knowledge, computational and statistical skills to specialized areas such as econometrics and financial economics.
